Inside the drum, this cylinder receives fluid pressure through the brake line and pushes the shoes outward against the drum. If a leaking or seized original cylinder is the cause of a soft pedal or fluid behind the drum, replacing it while servicing the drum brakes helps restore proper hydraulic action.
