The exterior tailgate handle is the grip you pull to operate the tailgate latch so the gate can be lowered. Everyday use and exposure can leave it cracked, snapped or loose. A handle that moves without releasing the gate is another sign it may need replacing. The latch or its linkage can cause similar symptoms, so check the cause before replacing. If the handle itself has failed, part number 15700 replaces it.
