Dorman - OE Solutions Door Lock Actuator Motor P/N:746-183
When a power door lock goes quiet or turns sluggish, the Dorman door lock actuator motor 746-155 is designed to take over the job, driving the door's lock mechanism each time the power lock switch is used. It fits many vehicles, among them the 1993-1998 Ford Ranger, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and 2003 Ford E-150.
This is a non-integrated door lock actuator. It is a separate unit, not one built into the door latch assembly.
Signs that a door lock actuator may need replacing include a door that won't lock or unlock with the power lock switch, a buzzing or clicking noise inside the door, or locks that work only some of the time. Wiring, switches and fuses can cause similar symptoms, so diagnose the cause first. If the actuator is at fault, this unit replaces it.
Depending on the vehicle, this actuator is listed for the front left, front right, rear, rear left or rear right door. It is also listed for the right-side sliding door and the right-side hinged door (front). See the "Vehicles it fits" section for the full vehicle and position list.
What does part 746-155 do?
It is the actuator that moves the door's lock mechanism to lock or unlock the door when the power lock switch is used.
What does non-integrated mean on this actuator?
It means the actuator is a standalone unit, separate from the door latch, so it is replaced on its own rather than as part of a latch assembly.
Does it fit the 1993-1998 Ford Ranger?
Yes. The 1993-1998 Ford Ranger is a listed application, along with the 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and 2003 Ford E-150. Check the "Vehicles it fits" section for your door position.
What testing has this Dorman lock actuator been through?
It has undergone extensive quality and safety performance testing, simulated crash testing under government guidelines, and cycle testing in an actual vehicle door.
What are signs the door lock actuator may be failing?
Common signs are a door that won't lock or unlock with the power switch, buzzing or clicking inside the door, or locks that work only some of the time. Rule out fuses, wiring and switches first.
