The pinion seal sits where the driveshaft yoke meets the rear differential. Its body stays stationary while the sealing lip rides against the rotating pinion shaft, keeping differential lubricant inside and blocking dirt, dust, and moisture from getting in. Weeping gear oil at the pinion/yoke area or fluid collecting under the rear axle are signs the seal may need replacing — if a worn pinion seal is the cause, this part replaces it.
