Built around Stabilus' Lift-O-Mat design, it uses a longitudinal groove (a velocity manifold) pressed into the tube wall so gas flows around the piston with extension speed and damping engineered for this application, and the groove narrows toward the end of the stroke for a gentle, controlled stop.
