This is a Lift-O-Mat by Stabilus unit that uses dynamic damping speed control. A longitudinal groove — a velocity manifold pressed into the tube wall — lets gas flow around the piston, with extension speed and damping engineered for this specific application. The groove narrows toward the end of the stroke for a gentle, controlled stop.
