A distributor cap covers the distributor and carries spark from the spinning rotor to the terminals that feed each spark plug wire. Over time, heat, moisture and electrical wear can crack the cap, leave carbon tracks or corrode the terminals, which can let spark stray from its path. If a worn cap is behind a misfire or hard start, this cap replaces it.
