A distributor vacuum advance control uses engine vacuum acting on a diaphragm to advance ignition timing under light-load conditions such as cruising. As vacuum drops under heavier load, timing returns toward its base setting.

Signs a vacuum advance may need replacing include hesitation or sluggish response on light acceleration, reduced fuel economy, or a diaphragm that no longer holds vacuum. Other faults can cause the same symptoms, so diagnose the ignition and vacuum system before you replace parts. If a failed vacuum advance is the cause, the VC-206 replaces it.
