The vacuum advance senses engine vacuum and moves the distributor's advance mechanism, so ignition timing changes as engine load changes. Signs this part may need replacing include a vacuum leak at the unit, hesitation, sluggish acceleration or reduced fuel economy. These symptoms can have other causes, so diagnose the ignition and vacuum system before replacing. If a failed vacuum advance is the cause, VC-24A replaces it on the listed applications.
