Squealing or grinding when you brake, a longer stopping distance or pad material worn thin can mean the front pads are due. These signs alone don't prove the pads are at fault, since a sticking caliper or a worn rotor can produce similar symptoms. Each vehicle takes one set, which puts a pad on each side of the front axle.
