A squeal or grinding noise when you brake, a longer stopping distance, or pad material worn close to the backing plate can mean the rear pads are finished. A rotor or caliper problem can cause noise too, so when the wheels are off for a brake or tire service, look at the pad thickness and the rotor face for grooves or rust.
