Weak cooling, oily residue around the hose or its fittings, or a cracked or rubbed hose can mean the suction hose is leaking or damaged. Weak cooling has other possible causes, so look the hose and fittings over with the engine off before you replace anything. Pressure and leak testing are best left to a shop.
