An oxygen sensor measures the oxygen in the exhaust gas and sends that signal back to the ECM. Signs this part may need replacing include an illuminated check engine light with oxygen-sensor or catalyst-efficiency trouble codes. Because those symptoms can have other causes, diagnose the fault first; if a failed downstream oxygen sensor is the cause, this replaces it.
