Keep torque flowing smoothly to the front right wheel with the CARDONE New CV Axle Assembly 66-8048, a direct-fit replacement for the 1989-1998 Mazda MPV (all engines). This new unit transfers power from the transaxle to the front right wheel while letting the joints flex through suspension travel and steering, and it arrives ready to install with a fresh axle nut and instruction sheet.

CARDONE studied why original CV axles fail and built this one to O.E. form, fit and function:

  • Neoprene boots: designed with additional bellows where needed to resist bellow stress and ozone cracking, the leading cause of boot failure; clamps are pneumatically crimped for a tight seal against the housing.
  • Verified straight shaft: each steel shaft is individually checked for straightness, designed for smooth, vibration-free performance at all speeds.
  • Precision-rolled splines: 26 inboard and 26 outboard splines, plus rolled threads, for proper fit into the hub, transmission, and axle nut.
  • Complete and ready: includes a new hex M24x1.5 retaining nut, a 44-tooth ABS tone ring, and high-quality grease that withstands high-temperature, high-torque demands.

Compressed length 21.562 in (547.69 mm) with a 1.102 in (28 mm) shaft. New; country of origin: China.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this CV axle fit my 1989-1998 Mazda MPV?

It's a direct-fit front right CV axle for the 1989-1998 Mazda MPV (all engines). Check the Buyer's Guide tab to confirm it matches your vehicle.

Is a new axle nut included, and can I reuse the old one?

Yes—a new hex M24x1.5 retaining nut ships with every unit. A prevailing-torque lock nut should never be reused, so discard the old one and torque the new nut to spec with a torque wrench, not an impact wrench.

I installed this axle and now my ABS light is on. Why?

The tone ring, sensor, or nearby wiring may have been damaged during installation, sending an erratic speed signal to the ABS module. This assembly includes a 44-tooth ABS tone ring.

I hear loud clicking when I turn hard and accelerate. What causes it?

A worn outer CV joint commonly causes clicking or snapping when turning under power. Have the cause diagnosed; if the outer joint is failing, replacing this axle addresses it.

I removed both CV axles at once and now can't reinstall them. What do I do?

On some vehicles the transaxle output gears lose alignment. Always remove and install one CV axle at a time; some transaxles must be disassembled to realign the gears.
