CARDONE Reman Windshield Wiper Motor P/N:40-2003
Restore rear-glass wiping on your Jeep Cherokee with the A1 CARDONE Remanufactured Rear Window Wiper Motor (MPN 40-444). It installs as a direct-fit replacement for the 1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee (engine: All), driving the tailgate wiper linkage to sweep the blade across the rear window and return it to its rest position. This is the REAR (tailgate) wiper motor — not the front windshield motor, which is a separate unit on this Cherokee.
This remanufactured unit runs at 2 wiper speeds, uses cast-aluminum construction with a grommet mounting type and 2 mounting holes, and has four female blade terminals plus a circuit board. As a remanufactured original-equipment part, the reman process reduces the energy and raw material of a new part by about 80%. Signs the original may need replacing include a rear wiper that doesn’t move, moves erratically, or stops in the wrong position — diagnose the cause before replacing. Country of origin: Mexico.

My rear wiper cycles fine but always parks in the middle of the rear glass. Is the motor bad?
Usually not. If it parks in the same mid-glass spot every cycle, the crank arm is most likely indexed at the wrong angle on the motor spline — a mechanical adjustment. A failed park switch instead cuts power abruptly or parks randomly.
Will this fit the front windshield wipers too?
No. This is the rear tailgate wiper motor for the 1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee. The front windshield uses a different motor — order that one separately if that is what you need.
What comes in the box?
The remanufactured rear wiper motor with a wiring harness (about 362 mm) and an instruction sheet. The washer pump and the wiper arm/blade are not included.
The motor will not run even though it is wired up. What should I check?
Check the harness ground, terminal ground lug, and ground strap first. If it still will not run, test the rear wiper switch and its circuit before replacing the motor.
Why is it remanufactured, and is it reliable?
Its main components (armature, field, bearing, park switch, pulse board) are tested against O.E. standards and the finished unit is function-tested. Reman uses about 80% less energy and raw material than a new part.
