A center high mount stop light is mounted high and centered at the rear of the vehicle, above the standard brake lights. It lights up when the brake pedal is pressed and gives following drivers an additional, higher-mounted warning.
Signs this assembly may need replacing include a third brake light that stays dark, a cracked or broken lens, or moisture inside the housing.
