When you press the brake pedal, the caliper squeezes the pads against the rotor to create the friction that slows the vehicle. As the friction material wears down, braking feel and performance can change. Signs your front pads may need replacing include squealing or grinding when braking, a longer stopping distance, or friction material that looks thin. Replacing the pads on both sides of the axle together is recommended for even, balanced braking. Inspect the rotors and other brake hardware at the same time, and follow the vehicle service information during installation.
