The front rotor is the disc your brake pads clamp against to slow the wheel, turning braking friction into heat. Signs a rotor may need replacing include a pulsing brake pedal, steering-wheel shake when braking, grinding or scraping noises, and deep scoring or a raised lip at the outer edge. For even, balanced braking, replacing both front rotors together as a matched pair is recommended, and the pads should be inspected at the same time.
