Parking brake shoes expand against the inside of the rear brake drum (or the drum-in-hat section of a rear rotor) to hold the vehicle stationary. Signs the shoes may need replacing include a parking brake that won't hold on an incline, a lever or pedal that travels farther than normal, or a scraping noise from the rear. If worn parking shoes are the cause, this set replaces them. Replace both sides together for even, balanced holding.
Where does this parking brake shoe install?
It's a rear parking (emergency) brake shoe set that expands against the inside of the rear brake drum, or the drum-in-hat section of a rear rotor, to hold the vehicle stationary when parked.
What friction material do these shoes use?
They use a semi-metallic friction lining, bonded or riveted to the carbon steel shoe per OE specifications, with a glue lining and treatment to promote friction-material-to-steel bonding.
