Positioned on the low-pressure side, the accumulator/filter drier stores refrigerant and uses a desiccant bag to pull moisture and contaminants out of the circulating refrigerant — the kind of debris that system flushing alone can't remove, which is why the accumulator is replaced whenever the system is opened for service.
