As a DeSlugger, this timer cycles the compressor clutch multiple times before normal operation to gradually push pooled oil and refrigerant out of the compressor. The manufacturer designed it to address the common OE problem of compressor slugging, help reduce a noisy, shaky compressor at start-up, and help protect and extend compressor life. Without it, the compressor has to work much harder to push all of the oil out at once, adding stress to the system.
