Warm air from the vents, a noisy or slipping clutch, or oily residue around the compressor can mean it is wearing out. A low charge or a leaking line can also produce warm air, so with the engine off, look over the belt, the clutch face and the fittings for oil before you decide on a compressor. A shop can test the refrigerant pressure.
