An orifice tube serves as the divide between the high- and low-pressure sections of the A/C system. It is a very simple component with no moving parts, letting refrigerant flow through its fixed-diameter tube. Because it also acts as a refrigerant filter, it can become clogged with debris, which is why the orifice tube should always be replaced during service.
