A heater control valve regulates how much engine coolant is routed into the heater core, setting the amount of heat delivered to the cabin according to the position commanded by the temperature-control cable. This is an open, non-bypass type. If a stuck, seized or leaking valve is the cause of no heat, weak heat, or coolant seepage, this replaces it.
