When an HVAC mode door actuator is failing, you may notice air coming from the wrong vents, a mode setting that no longer changes the airflow, or a ticking noise behind the dash. Before you replace the actuator, rule out a blown fuse, a damaged connector and a door that is jammed, because any of them can also stop the air from changing direction.
