Bring firm, fade-free rear damping back to your classic Porsche with the KYB Gas-a-just shock absorber KG5542, a high-pressure monotube gas unit offered as an OE monotube replacement to help restore your vehicle's original capabilities. It installs in the REAR position on the 1972-1988 Porsche 911, the 1976 Porsche 912, and the 1978-1979 Porsche 930.

The Gas-a-just runs two separate working chambers: an air-free hydraulic piston and valve area for responsiveness and control, plus a high-pressure nitrogen gas area with a floating piston for a comfortable ride during normal driving and added performance on demand.

  • Up to 25% more damping: adds up to 25% more damping performance over original equipment shocks, with components and valving designed specifically for the Porsche 911 or 912.
  • Fade-free monotube: the high-pressure monotube design separates the gas and oil for fade-free operation and instant response.
  • Built for hard use: Gas-a-just monotubes add damping over the OE design for vehicles that work, tow, and run larger, heavier tires and wheels.
  • Triple chrome-plated piston rod: because fluid leaking can be a cause of shock failure, the ultra-smooth triple chrome-plated rod is designed to reduce seal wear, and the higher gas pressure responds quickly to improve steering response.

By keeping the suspension working as intended, it helps keep Electronic Safety Systems performing as designed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this KYB shock absorber fit my Porsche?

The KG5542 is a direct-fit rear shock for the 1972-1988 Porsche 911, the 1976 Porsche 912, and the 1978-1979 Porsche 930. See the Buyer's Guide tab to confirm your exact vehicle.

What makes this a KYB gas shock absorber?

It uses a high-pressure monotube design that separates the nitrogen gas from the oil with a floating piston, plus an air-free hydraulic piston and valve area, for fade-free operation and quick response.

Is this a front or rear shock?

This KG5542 is cataloged for the REAR position on the listed applications.

How much damping does the Gas-a-just add?

KYB states it adds up to 25% more damping performance over original equipment shocks, with extra damping over the OE design for vehicles that work, tow, or run larger, heavier tires and wheels.

Do I need to replace both rear shocks?

This listing is for one shock absorber. For balanced handling it is best practice to replace the shocks on the same axle together as a matched pair.
