The tie rod end uses an internal ball socket that lets the joint articulate as the suspension moves and the wheels steer. As it wears you may notice steering play or looseness, a clunk from the front end, uneven tire wear, or wandering. If a worn front inner tie rod end is the cause, this replaces it; inspect both sides and follow the service procedure.
