It's a direct-fit replacement for the front position on the 1997-2003 Ford Escort and 1997-1999 Mercury Tracer (see the Buyer's Guide tab for engine-level fitment), connecting the top of the strut to the body to help support and locate the suspension while isolating road vibration.
