Trigger your ignition straight from the crankshaft with the MSD Ignition Crank Trigger Wheel 86113. It is a 7 in., black replacement wheel for MSD's Flying Magnet crank trigger design, built for small block Chevy engines. It is a direct-fit replacement for the listed applications and fits many vehicles, including the 1958-1985 Chevrolet Impala 4.4L / 4.6L / 5.0L / 5.3L / 5.4L / 5.7L / 6.6L and the 1967-1986 Chevrolet Camaro 4.4L / 4.9L / 5.0L / 5.3L / 5.4L / 5.7L.

Racers have long relied on crank triggering to steady ignition timing. MSD's Flying Magnet design looks like other crank triggers but works on a different principle. Most crank triggers use a wheel with protruding steel studs that pass a stationary magnetic pick-up. That type of pick-up can also be set off by other bolts, by debris or even by vibration. On the Flying Magnet design, four magnets secured in the aluminum wheel pass a stationary non-magnetic pick-up to trigger the ignition.

  • Flying Magnet design: powerful magnets are embedded in a billet aluminum trigger wheel.
  • Accurate trigger signal: the magnets pass a non-magnetic pick-up, which is designed to resist false triggering.
  • Small block Chevy replacement: a 7 in. crank trigger wheel, finished in black.
  • Country of origin: United States.

The wheel is listed for small block Chevy engine codes V8-4.3L, V8-4.4L, V8-4.6L, V8-4.7L, V8-4.9L, V8-5.0L, V8-5.2L, V8-5.3L, V8-5.4L, V8-5.5L, V8-5.7L and V8-6.6L across many vehicles. The listed applications use one wheel. See the Buyer's Guide tab for the full list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a crank trigger wheel do?

It turns with the crankshaft and carries the trigger points that pass a stationary pick-up, which signals the ignition. On the 86113, the trigger points are four magnets embedded in the wheel.

How is the Flying Magnet design different?

Most crank triggers pass steel studs by a magnetic pick-up. Here, four magnets in a billet aluminum wheel pass a stationary non-magnetic pick-up, which is designed to resist false triggering from debris or vibration.

Which engines is the MSD 86113 listed for?

It is a replacement wheel for small block Chevy engines, listed for codes V8-4.3L to V8-6.6L in vehicles such as the 1967-1986 Chevrolet Camaro 4.4L / 4.9L / 5.0L / 5.3L / 5.4L / 5.7L. See the Buyer's Guide tab for the rest.
