Mounted to the nose of the crankshaft, a harmonic balancer absorbs the torsional vibrations created as the crankshaft rotates, helping protect the crankshaft and front-of-engine components. If a worn balancer is behind the trouble, this unit replaces it. Signs it may need replacing include a visibly wobbling or slipping outer ring, cracked or separated rubber bonding, and engine vibration.
