Schaeffler lists SS6359 as a shaft seal. It seats where the pinion shaft leaves the differential. The seal body stays stationary while its lip contacts the rotating shaft, helping to retain differential lubricant and block contaminants such as dirt, dust and moisture. A pinion seal may need replacing if you see these signs:

• Lubricant seepage or drips at the front of the rear differential, where the driveshaft connects
• A wet, grime-coated area around the pinion
• A dropping differential fluid level
