This is a Lift-O-Mat by Stabilus. A longitudinal groove — a velocity manifold pressed into the tube wall — lets gas flow around the piston with extension speed and damping engineered for this application. The groove profile gradually narrows toward the end of the stroke for a gentle, controlled stop with minimal impact. When a worn support that no longer holds the hood is the cause, this replaces it. For best results, replace in pairs.
