Standard is a global manufacturer of original equipment ignition products. It maintains complete quality control throughout manufacturing, from componentry to finished product, and its distributor caps and rotors draw on decades of research and development.
- High dielectric strength housing: The cap is made of glass/mineral reinforced polyester resin. The manufacturer states that this gives less carbon tracking and greater resistance to electrical breakdown.
- RFI resistors (where specified): These are intended to suppress radio static and potential ECU-damaging spikes.
- Solid brass terminals (where available): These are designed for better connections and greater resistance to electrical pitting and corrosion.
A distributor cap may need replacing if it shows cracks, carbon tracks, or burned or corroded terminals. Misfires, rough running or hard starting can also be signs of a worn cap. These symptoms can have other causes, so diagnose the ignition system before replacing parts. If a worn cap is the cause, the JH-137 replaces it.
