The distributor cap sits atop the distributor and directs high-voltage current from the rotor to each spark plug wire in the engine's firing order. Signs it may need replacing include carbon tracking inside the cap, hard starting, misfires, or rough running, especially in damp conditions. If a cracked or worn cap is the cause, this replaces it.
