The ignition starter switch is the electrical switch operated by the ignition key. It selects the accessory, run and start positions, feeds power to the ignition system and signals the starter to crank. When its internal contacts wear, the circuits it controls may lose power intermittently or entirely.
Signs this part may need replacing: The engine may not crank, or may crank only intermittently, when the key is turned to start. The dash or accessories may cut out while driving. The engine may stall when the key is bumped, or there may be no power in the accessory or run position. Other components can cause these same symptoms, so diagnose the cause before replacing the switch.
