Keep your speedometer reading and transmission signals talking to the PCM with the Standard Ignition Vehicle Speed Sensor SC202. It drops in as a direct-fit replacement for the 1995-2000 Ford Contour, 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, and 1995 Mercury Mystique.
A vehicle speed sensor monitors the rotational speed of the driveline and sends that signal to the powertrain control module, speedometer, and related systems such as cruise control and transmission shift scheduling.
- Signals the electronics: supplies the speed input the PCM and speedometer rely on for accurate readings.
- Direct-fit replacement: a direct-fit replacement for the listed applications.
- Addresses common VSS symptoms: if a failed speed sensor is the cause, this replaces the original unit.
Signs the original speed sensor may need replacing include an erratic or dead speedometer, harsh or erratic transmission shifting, inoperative cruise control, or a check engine light. Because these symptoms can have other causes, diagnose the cause before replacing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does this vehicle speed sensor do?
It monitors driveline rotational speed and sends that signal to the PCM and speedometer, which use it for functions like cruise control and transmission shift timing.
Which vehicles does the SC202 fit?
It is a direct-fit replacement for the 1995-2000 Ford Contour, 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, and 1995 Mercury Mystique. See the "Vehicles it fits" section to confirm your vehicle.
What numbers does this part interchange with?
It cross-references S8368, SU2114, VSS326, DY936, F5RZ9E731AA, F5RZ9E731AB, and F5RZ9E731AC. Its own manufacturer part number is SC202.
What are signs my speed sensor may need replacing?
An erratic or non-working speedometer, harsh or erratic shifting, inoperative cruise control, or a check engine light. These can have other causes, so diagnose first.
Will replacing this fix my speedometer?
If a failed speed sensor is the cause, this replaces the original unit. Since the same symptoms can stem from wiring or other components, verify the cause before replacing.
