Grinding or squealing from the rear brakes, or friction material that looks thin during a brake or tire service, can mean the pads are worn. A sticking caliper or a scored rotor can make similar noises, so have the pad thickness and rotor face looked at during a brake or tire service before you replace anything. Pads on both rear wheels are normally replaced together.
