- Position monitoring: Reads the rotational position and speed of the camshaft or crankshaft and sends that signal to the engine control module.
- Timing reference: The ECM uses this input to help sequence ignition timing and fuel injection.
- Signs it may need replacing: hard starts, a no-start, stalling, rough running, or an illuminated check engine light.
This sensor is cataloged under both the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor names, so it appears under either type. Because the symptoms above can have other causes, diagnose the fault first — if a failed position sensor is the cause of your driveability trouble, this unit replaces it.
