The receiver drier / desiccant element works as a filter, removing moisture and contaminants from the A/C system that flushing cannot clear, which is why it is replaced rather than cleaned. Moisture absorption is handled by the desiccant bag; a leaking or "open" system can saturate that bag within a few hours and leave the drier ineffective, so it should be renewed any time the system is opened for service.

Sealing hardware included: the necessary gaskets, o-rings and seal are included for the installation.
