The receiver drier acts as a filter, removing moisture and contaminants from the A/C system — debris that can't be cleared by flushing, which is why replacing this unit is essential whenever the system is opened. Moisture absorption happens through the desiccant bag; a leaking or open system can saturate that bag within a few hours, leaving the drier ineffective.
