What does this receiver drier / desiccant element do?

Yes. The kit includes the necessary gaskets, o-rings, and seal, plus the plug, for easy installation.
When should the drier be replaced?
Four Seasons states the accumulator/filter drier must be replaced any time the A/C system is serviced, and replacement is required to validate the compressor warranty.
Which vehicles does P/N 83305 fit?
It is a direct-fit replacement for the 2013-2014 Lincoln Navigator, 2014-2019 Ford Expedition, and 2017-2020 Ford F-150 (also listed as F150 and Lobo). See the Buyer's Guide tab to confirm.
Why can a saturated desiccant bag be a problem?
A leaking or "open" system can saturate the desiccant bag within a few hours, leaving the drier unable to absorb more moisture. A fresh unit provides the intended moisture-absorbing capacity.
