It drops in as a direct-fit replacement for a wide range of listed applications, including the 1978-1979 Ford Bronco, 1975-1980 Ford E-250 Econoline, 1975-1996 Ford E-350 Econoline, 1975-1979 Ford F-150, 1975-1996 Ford F-250, 1975-1997 Ford F-350, 1972-1978 Ford Ranchero and more — see the Buyer's Guide tab for the full list. This distributor must be used with an MSD Ignition Control (6, 7, 8 or 10 Series).

  • Compact billet housing: the CNC-machined billet aluminum housing and base run 5/8 in. smaller in diameter than stock Ford distributors, freeing up room in front of the engine. Finished in red.
  • Accurate triggering: a maintenance-free magnetic pickup and precision reluctor create stable trigger signals throughout the rpm range.
  • Adjustable mechanical advance: a fully adjustable advance assembly with chrome-moly plate and weights, nylon pads and staked, TIG-welded weight pins; it can be locked out for crank trigger systems.
  • Built to spin: a QPQ-coated polished steel shaft guided by sealed ball bearings, plus an iron gear.

Supplied with a small-diameter cap featuring HEI-style terminals and a race rotor, and it will accept the PN 8441 Cap-A-Dapt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this distributor work on its own?

No. The 8577 must be used with an MSD Ignition Control from the 6, 7, 8 or 10 Series — it relies on that control to fire the ignition.

What comes with the distributor?

It is supplied with a small-diameter cap featuring HEI-style terminals and a race rotor. It will also accept the PN 8441 Cap-A-Dapt.

How much smaller is the housing than a stock Ford distributor?

The CNC-machined billet aluminum housing and cap are 5/8 in. smaller in diameter than stock Ford distributors, providing extra room in front of the engine.

Can the mechanical advance be adjusted?

Yes. The fully adjustable advance assembly is tuned by changing the supplied advance springs and stop bushing, and it can be locked out for crank trigger systems.
