When you press the pedal, the accelerator cable pulls the carburetor throttle open; when you let off, the throttle is allowed to return toward idle. Over time a cable can fray, kink, stretch or bind inside its housing. Signs this part may need replacing include a pedal that feels stiff, binds or sticks, a throttle that is slow to return to idle, delayed throttle response, or visible fraying or damage to the cable. Because throttle linkage and return springs can cause similar symptoms, inspect them as well. If a worn or damaged accelerator cable is the cause, the Pioneer CA-8453 replaces it.
