Get precise on-road and off-road handling at the back of your Jeep with this RANCHO shock absorber. The Rancho RS7MT RS77256 is a rear monotube shock with valving tuned to each application. It is a direct-fit replacement for the 1997-2006 Jeep TJ and 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler. See the Buyer's Guide tab for engine details.

Rancho's monotube design is highly effective at dissipating heat. That makes this suspension shock absorber well suited to extreme off-road use and to larger wheel and tire packages.

  • Deflective Disc Valving: digressive, linear or progressive tuning is set by application requirements for precise handling on and off the road.
  • Strong and durable: a 14mm hardened chrome piston rod resists scuffs and corrosion. The shock also has double-welded loops at stress areas, a double-strength closure method and a hot form reserve tube.
  • Handles temperature swings: a large 2-in. monotube body filled with all-weather fluid allows cooler operation and can withstand internal temperatures of -40 to 248°F. A full-floating dividing piston and high-pressure nitrogen gas keep constant pressure on the hydraulic oil, helping reduce aeration and shock fade.
  • Smoother ride: an internal rebound bumper and shouldered rubber bushings help reduce noise, vibration and harshness. The PTFE-banded piston helps the shock respond to changing road conditions.

An integrated dirt-wiper sealing system helps keep moisture, dirt and debris out of the shock, where they could contaminate the oil and damage the internal seal. A large 46mm fluon-banded piston provides consistent sealing against the monotube for precise control. The application-specific mounting is designed to fit right out of the box, with no sleeves or extra hardware to install. For extra protection, Rancho offers shock boot RS1952 or RS1961, sold separately. The shock has a black satin finish with the Rancho red logo and is backed by Rancho's Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Signs a rear shock may need replacing include excessive bouncing after bumps, the rear bottoming out, fluid leaking from the body, or uneven tire wear. If a worn shock is the cause, this 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler shock absorber replaces it.
