Standard Ignition Ignition Contact Set P/N:DU-2142
Keep a classic European ignition firing on schedule with the Standard Ignition Contact Set DU-2135, a points set for the distributor. It fits many vehicles, among them the 1966-1972 Citroen DS21, 1974-1979 Fiat 128 and 1974-1979 Fiat X-1/9. See the Buyer's Guide tab for the full list and engine details.
As the distributor cam turns, the contact set opens and closes the ignition coil's primary circuit to time the spark for each cylinder. Standard builds these features into DU-2135:
Standard has served the automotive aftermarket since 1919. As a global manufacturer of original equipment ignition products, it maintains quality control throughout manufacturing, from componentry to the finished product.
Signs the points may need replacing include hard starting, misfiring, burned or pitted contact faces, and a worn rubbing block that lets the gap and dwell drift. If worn points are the cause, this contact set replaces them. After installation, check dwell and timing using the vehicle's service information.
What does an ignition contact set do?
The contact set (points) opens and closes the ignition coil's primary circuit as the distributor cam turns. This triggers the spark at the right moment for each cylinder.
Does DU-2135 need adjusting before installation?
It arrives pre-aligned and pre-adjusted to save installation time. After installing it, confirm the point gap or dwell and the ignition timing using the vehicle's service information.
What is the felt pad for?
The lubricated felt pad lubricates the distributor cam lobes. This reduces wear on the point set's rubbing block and extends the part's usable life.
Why does it use a copper-alloy shunt?
The copper-alloy shunt resists breakage from the flexing of the moving arm. It also conducts current significantly better than typical steel shunts.
Which vehicles does the DU-2135 fit?
It fits many vehicles, including the 1966-1972 Citroen DS21, 1974-1979 Fiat 128 and 1974-1979 Fiat X-1/9. See the Buyer's Guide tab for the full list.
