If air comes out of the wrong outlets, the airflow doesn't change when you switch modes, or you hear clicking from behind the dash, the HVAC mode door actuator can be worn. A wiring problem or another HVAC fault could show up the same way, so with the ignition off, look over the actuator's connector and linkage for damage before you replace it.
