Drop in a fresh spark and fire up your Olds with the MSD Ready-To-Run Distributor 8529. It's a direct-fit ignition upgrade for a long list of Oldsmobile applications, including the 1965-1971 442, 1965-1984 98, 1971-1990 Custom Cruiser, 1965-1977 and 1979-1980 Cutlass, 1965-1985 Delta 88, 1966-1971 and 1976-1985 Toronado, and many more — see the Buyer's Guide tab for the full list.

  • Ready-to-Run simplicity: drop it in the engine, connect three wires, and go — no separate MSD Ignition Control required.
  • High-output inductive module: houses a built-in rev limiter and rides inside a billet aluminum housing, with a QPQ-coated polished steel shaft guided by two sealed ball bearings.
  • Mechanical advance: weights and plate are fine-blanked from chrome moly steel with nylon pads for smooth operation, plus supplied advance springs and bushings to set your timing curve, and a vacuum advance for economy.
  • Complete package: supplied with the MSD Cap, Race Rotor, wire retainer, iron gear, and an HEI-style distributor cap/rotor that accepts Cap-A-Dapts.

A maintenance-free magnetic pickup and precision reluctor create stable trigger signals throughout the rpm range, and the mechanical advance can be locked out for crank trigger systems. CARB E.O. approved.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Ready-To-Run distributor install?

It's a three-wire, drop-in installation — set it in the engine, connect the three wires, and fire it up. It does not require a separate MSD Ignition Control.

Does this distributor have a rev limiter?

Yes. The high-output inductive ignition module inside the billet aluminum housing has a built-in rev limiter to help protect your engine from over-rev.

What comes with the distributor?

It's supplied with the MSD Cap, Race Rotor, wire retainer, and gear, plus an HEI-style distributor cap/rotor that accepts Cap-A-Dapts, and advance springs and bushings.

Can I run this with a crank trigger system?

Yes. The mechanical advance assembly can be locked out for crank trigger systems, while the vacuum advance supports economy on street setups.

Is this distributor emissions legal?

It is CARB E.O. approved. Always confirm the application is correct for your specific vehicle and engine before installing.
