MSD Distributor P/N:8519
Route high-voltage spark to the plugs with the MSD Crank Trigger Distributor 85583, a billet low-profile unit built for the Chevy V8 tall block. Its low, tight profile is designed to fit tight intake systems and clear firewall/intake combinations while carrying the high voltage of an MSD racing ignition. This is a crank-trigger distributor, so it must be used with an MSD crank trigger and an MSD ignition control. It fits a wide range of 1955-1975 Chevrolet, GMC and Pontiac applications — including the Chevrolet Bel Air, Camaro, Chevelle, Impala, Nova and C10 Pickup, the GMC C15/C1500 Pickup and Jimmy, and the Pontiac Ventura. See the Buyer's Guide tab for the full 52-application list.
Supplied with a bronze gear. O-ring seals can be installed for oil pressure control (modified engines only).
Does this distributor work on its own?
No. It is a crank-trigger distributor and must be used with an MSD crank trigger and an MSD ignition control.
What gear is included?
It is supplied with a bronze gear, along with a large-diameter HEI-style distributor cap and rotor.
Why is it called a tall-block distributor?
It uses an adjustable slip-collar mounting flange that allows it to fit most tall-block engines that have had the deck height modified.
What is the shaft made of?
An oversized polished steel shaft with a QPQ coating, guided by sealed ball bearings, and served by a special oil tract to improve lubrication to the distributor and cam gear.
Will it fit under a tight intake or firewall?
It has a billet low-profile design intended to fit low in the block to help clear tight intake systems and firewall/intake combinations.
