- Cap material: Standard makes its distributor caps from a high dielectric strength, glass/mineral reinforced polyester resin. The material is intended to reduce carbon tracking and resist electrical breakdown.
- RFI resistors, where specified: On caps where Standard specifies them, RFI resistors are designed to help suppress radio static and potential ECU-damaging voltage spikes.
- Solid brass terminals, where available: Where Standard offers them, solid brass terminals are intended to make better connections and to better resist electrical pitting and corrosion.
The distributor cap receives high voltage from the ignition coil. As the rotor turns beneath it, the cap passes that voltage to each spark plug terminal in turn.
Signs a cap may need replacing include misfires, rough idle, hard starting, and cracks, carbon tracks or corroded terminals inside the cap. These symptoms can have other causes, so inspect the ignition system before replacing parts. If a worn cap is the cause, this unit replaces it.
