Help send high-voltage spark to each cylinder in firing order with the Standard Ignition Distributor Rotor AL-85. It installs as a direct-fit replacement on many vintage Jeep vehicles, among them the 1959 Jeep CJ3, 1959 Jeep CJ5 and 1959 Jeep CJ6.

The rotor turns with the distributor shaft beneath the cap. It carries current from the coil, through the cap's center terminal, to each outer cap terminal that feeds a spark plug wire. Standard builds its distributor caps and rotors on decades of research and development.

  • Quality control: Standard is a global manufacturer of original equipment ignition products. It controls quality through every stage, from componentry to the finished product.
  • Dielectric alkyd body: High-grade dielectric-strength alkyd resists dirt sticking to it. This decreases carbon tracking for extended service life.
  • Solid brass segments: Provide better conductivity and higher-voltage spark to the plugs.
  • Shaft retention clips: Used where the application requires them, for a proper fit and performance.

Signs this part may need replacing: misfires, hard starting, rough running, or a rotor with a burned or worn tip, cracks, or carbon tracking. Other ignition components can cause the same symptoms, so diagnose the cause before replacing.

See the Buyer's Guide tab for the full list of applications and engine details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a distributor rotor do?

It spins with the distributor shaft under the cap. It carries high-voltage current from the cap's center terminal to each outer terminal in firing order, and from there to the spark plug wires.

What are the signs a distributor rotor may need replacing?

Warning signs include misfires, hard starting, rough running, or a burned tip, cracks, or carbon tracking on the rotor. Other ignition parts cause similar symptoms, so diagnose the cause before replacing.

Which vehicles does the AL-85 fit?

It fits many vintage Jeep vehicles, among them the 1959 Jeep CJ3, 1959 Jeep CJ5 and 1959 Jeep CJ6. See the Buyer's Guide tab for every application.

What are the rotor's segments made of?

The AL-85 has solid brass segments. Standard says they provide better conductivity and higher-voltage spark to the plugs.

What part numbers does the AL-85 interchange with?

It interchanges with A1658, JA001658, D121, AL927, AL69, 1972053, 55758, 71465C1, AE14582E and 410.
